

An amazing tunnel made of tree-branches leads visitors towards a collection of sketches and storyboards from the co –founder of Studio Ghibli who brought us My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke. The space set aside for temporary exhibitions opened with a major retrospective (running until early June, 2022) of Hayao Miyazai, the Japanese master of animation.

So many iconic props that combine to make this museum so unique. There’s also the tablets from The Ten Commandments and the dressing gown worn by the riotous Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski. The museum will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. Admission is 25 for adults, 19 for seniors (age 62+), and 15 for students.

The Academy Museum revealed details of Fanny’s, the museum’s restaurant and café. You’ll get to see the other side of the set and the “magical” techniques used in making movies, thanks to the museum’s immersive, interactive curation. The museum’s galleries are spread over six floors, and take visitors on an epic journey across the history of the silver screen, from its first faltering steps in the late 19 th century, all the way through to the present day, special effects included.

Occupying an old Art Deco warehouse built in the 1930s, the museum was designed by award-winning architect Renzo Piano, who added a giant metal dome to the original building, housing the David Geffen Theater, an ultramodern 1000-seat cinema.
